CONTEST TIME!!! Yay!!

I'm so excited that this is my first sponsored contest! If you've checked the previous blog entry, you'll see my goal was to bring awareness to BREAST CANCER and DOMESTIC VIOLENCE for the month of OCTOBER. Also, if you remember the colors are PINK and PURPLE. Two of my favorite colors might I add! I was approached some time ago to put together a contest by Mrs. Yvette Allen of Yvette Allen Handbags. She expressed her stories of strength and courage to me. And she wanted to give back others who have a story of their own to tell with not ONE, but TWO handbags! Check them out below!

'MS. AWARENESS'

'STOP THE VIOLENCE'

So here's where you come in! If there's someone that is a survivor or has passed due to cancer (pink) or domestic violence (purple), the bag will be named after them if you win. Also, if you're a survivor, the bag will be named after you. If neither has personally affected you or a loved one, feel free to express your story of strength in other areas (the color choice will be up to you at this point and can also be dedicated to a loved one as well). This will not be a random giveaway, we will be choosing the winners! So put some thought into your look and ROCK IT OUT, DIVA STYLE!

October is Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Month

This month is Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I found there are other issues brought to attention this month as well, but I find the issues aforementioned are very secretive. Many people don't like to talk about certain issues, even illnesses, and as a result the numbers are rising in some areas. There could be numerous reasons why we don't speak about things. This needs to stop! So many people could very well be living healthier lives if we stopped living in shame or felt alone. Everyone has a right to have their stories heard and get the help they need. And if you go to someone and they won't listen, find someone who WILL!

With that being said I will give some quick tips/stats.

Breast Cancer:

90% Women with breast cancer who make it to the five-year survival mark. That's up from 63 percent in the 1960s.

82% Women who make it to the 10-year survival mark.

77% Women who make it to the 15-year survival mark. (This number reflects women who didn't have the benefit of recent screening and treatment strategies.)

54% Women who reach the five-year survival mark after becoming pregnant within six months of ending treatment. That number increased to 78 percent for those women who became pregnant between six months and two years after treatment.

1/3 Percentage of cancer deaths in the U.S. each year that are linked to poor diet and lack of physical activity, according to a study published in the January/February 2012 issue of CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians.

Domestic Violence:

One in four women (25%) has experienced domestic violence in her lifetime.

Between 600,000 and 6 million women are victims of domestic violence each year, and between 100,000 and 6 million men, depending on the type of survey used to obtain the data.

Nearly three out of four (74%) of Americans personally know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence.

On average, more than three women and one man are murdered by their intimate partners in this country every day.

Studies suggest that between 3.3 - 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually.

My Going Natural site Feature.

I was so honored and excited when I was contacted by the creator/founder of Going Natural, Ms. Mireille Liong

While helping a friend with her transition, she gave me the encouragement I needed to start my journey. I remember checking the search engines and such, her site was one of the first of a few web communities I came across. Then when I went to another site, I saw how she participated there as well and interacted with others. She wasn't just plugging her site at random to get recruits. That said alot to me about her character and I've had so much respect ever since.

Ok enough of my blabbin'! Here's the link: http://going-natural.com/hair-stories/dollface-g.html

Oh and let me add a pic so I can be FANCY..lol

Let me know what you think about the interview. :)

Quick brow PICTORIAL!

Ok Sooooo..I saw a pictorial of this eyebrow how-to floating around. I originally didn't think I could do it. But I've tried and revamped it to my liking. Don't know who the original was and I can't find a pic, but I'm sure yall have seen it floating around online. If yall know who the artist was, please let me know. I'd like to see more from them. But, anyway..the above..is my rendition.

My brow how-to:

I started w/ clean face and shaped brows (Only a few hairs to pluck so I didn't bother..lol) Using Maybelline's Define-A-Brow in Dark Brown, shape the bottom of the brow using short strokes. Do the same to the top off the brows, but start back slightly a bit further than shown in the pic (I'll demonstrate later in a vid). I chose to exaggerate the peak of the brow for a semi-dramatic look. I filled in my brows with the pencil. (You can do the same with a brow powder or matte eyeshadow and a brush.)

Next, I applied ELF's Eyeshadow Primer to prep my eye for makeup from the lid to underneath the brow and spread with my finger quickly but gently, then allowed the primer to set. Seeing my brows were a bit thick for my liking, I carved them with Sheer Cover's Duo Concealer in Dark/Deep with my ELF Concealer Brush. The lighter color under the brow gives them a nice highlighted, freshly arched look. I carved the top of my brows with the deeper color of the duo. Don't forget to clean up the front as well as the ends of the brows. (If you mess up this part you can always go back to make corrections with your pencil or powder. When using a concealer, please make sure you use colors as close to your skin tone as possible. Usually concealers are no more than one to two shades lighter than your natural skin tone. So if you choose to highlight only go two to three shades lighter.)

Finally, I blended out the concealer with my fingers and proceeded to do my eye makeup. Blending out the concealer makes it much easier to work with. I usually lightly brush my foundation over that area because it already has some coverage and since it's close to my skin tone I don't have to work so hard.

The last pic is just showing the finished eye makeup. Not too shabby! :) Yes! I know I have some BIG OLE EYEBALLS! And I totally didn't fade out the front of my brows because for some reason the left one has a bald spot there..What on earth?! Oh well..let me get my Rogaine!

Let me know what you think. I hope to do a full eye pictorial soon! Thanks for your support!

PS: Sometimes when I practice on my brows and get them how I want them (before applying shadow, even concealer at times), I use the finished look  as a guideline for plucking. I can get a bit happy with the tweezers leading to over-arched brows. Not only do I end up with a great arch, this makes things easier when it comes to the next fill-in.  :)

FOTD 9/10/12 Vampy Look

Ok! So I got the memo that Vampy Lips are HOT this season! Let me tell you I've been stepping out the box trying these new looks! A great way to 'TAKE BACK DIVA' is to do something outside of the norm, right?! I've always been so self-conscious about my full lips that I never really wanted to draw much attention to them. Now that' I've been experiment with new things, I feel free to do whatever...sort of! lol

This makeup look may seem a bit familar, so let me explain! I was watching the Love and Hip Hop Reunion show...don't ask! lol And I saw the beautiful Ms Erica Dixon rocking a vampy look. I was so inspired that I decided to give it a go. And NO this look is not exactly like hers, nor did I attempt to fully imitate it. I just took the elements that drew me to the look and did my spin on it. I'm still trying to figure out who her MUA was that night, but whoever he/she was did a great job.

Oh yeah..almost forgot! I get the most questions about the lipsticks I wear so this look was created by Wet N Wild's Vamp It up and MAC Heroine. Great combo IMHO and I will be rocking it again! :)

I'm going to try to make my next FOTD one with a list of what I used..MAYBE a step by step one day..who knows? :)

Much love! xoxo

FOTD 9/7/12 Retro Glam

Every woman needs to have that perfect RED LIPSTICK in her collection. This one just so happens to be my favorite! Wet-n-Wild's Cherry Picking. I had my doubts about this lipstick initially and was originally hesitant. I finally decided to dive and and I'm not at all disappointed.

I had to top the whole look off with a neutral eye, retro hairstyle, and a flower for a pseudo pinup look. This is also a cute look to go with my new specs. I thought it would be overpowering, but not-so. I'm happy. :)

Hopefully, soon in the near future I'll be posting more FOTD's along with what I used for the full face. Thanks for stopping by. :)

DIY TIME! Necklace Display

First of all, I would like to apologize for not showing how everything came in the box, along with me putting everything together. I'm not even sure what the name of the product was or who it was by. I PROMISE I'll do better on my next DIY mission, but please believe, you can probably find this product in any store that carries storage/organization/household items. You can also do some thrift shopping or you may already have it collecting dust in your storage room. In this case, it was at my grandmother's house collecting dust. She didn't have a use for it so she kindly gave it to me. Thank you, Granny! :)

And, YES I know this isn't anything original. I've seen this many times. There maybe some people who haven't seen this revamped idea so I thought I'd share. If you're not quite familiar, this is used to hang hats, jackets, scarves, etc.

Also, If you're out thrifting and you come across a few of these bad boys, there's nothing a little spray paint won't hurt. You may even find one collecting dust in your storage room or attic. Hopefully, I'll find more to revamp so I can show you exactly what I mean. Never be afraid to let your imagination run free! :)
