I'm so excited that this is my first sponsored contest! If you've checked the previous blog entry, you'll see my goal was to bring awareness to BREAST CANCER and DOMESTIC VIOLENCE for the month of OCTOBER. Also, if you remember the colors are PINK and PURPLE. Two of my favorite colors might I add! I was approached some time ago to put together a contest by Mrs. Yvette Allen of Yvette Allen Handbags. She expressed her stories of strength and courage to me. And she wanted to give back others who have a story of their own to tell with not ONE, but TWO handbags! Check them out below!

So here's where you come in! If there's someone that is a survivor or has passed due to cancer (pink) or domestic violence (purple), the bag will be named after them if you win. Also, if you're a survivor, the bag will be named after you. If neither has personally affected you or a loved one, feel free to express your story of strength in other areas (the color choice will be up to you at this point and can also be dedicated to a loved one as well). This will not be a random giveaway, we will be choosing the winners! So put some thought into your look and ROCK IT OUT, DIVA STYLE!

1. Open to everyone 18 and older. If you're under 18, parental consent is needed. (Anyone outside of U.S. must be responsible for shipping costs if you are chosen as a winner.)

2. Must LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to Yvette Allen.
 3. Must LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to Dollface Galactica.
4. Your submission must consist of a fashionable look that will coordinate with the bag you wish to win. Remember this bag will be named after you or a loved one, so represent! Go all out! Hair, makeup, etc. Please make sure this is a new look. Nothing recycled.

5. Your entry can be in video or picture format with the title OCTOBER AWARENESS CONTEST. Only choose one. Multiple entries do not count. Picture or video must be clear enough to view properly. Picture can be a collage with a brief story with the upload under the picture. Video must be no longer than 3 minutes long with a brief description of why you are entering, and who you're entering for (loved one or yourself). Upload video as a RESPONSE to the original:

6. You must verbally mention and Dollface Galactica in your vid. If you choose to do a picture (collection) vid, you can create a sign. You can also create a sign for your photo entry as well. The entry must be posted on my fanpage

7. When the winner receives the bag, make sure you show us the completed look in picture or vid form.

8.  Contest starts OCTOBER 11, 2012 and will end NOVEMBER 1, 2012 at 11:59pm EST. WINNERS will be chosen NOVEMBER 5, 2012.

SPECIAL NOTE:  If your entry was dedicated to someone who's still alive and you win, feel free to gift the bag to them if you wish.

October is Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Month

This month is Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I found there are other issues brought to attention this month as well, but I find the issues aforementioned are very secretive. Many people don't like to talk about certain issues, even illnesses, and as a result the numbers are rising in some areas. There could be numerous reasons why we don't speak about things. This needs to stop! So many people could very well be living healthier lives if we stopped living in shame or felt alone. Everyone has a right to have their stories heard and get the help they need. And if you go to someone and they won't listen, find someone who WILL!

With that being said I will give some quick tips/stats.

Breast Cancer:
90% Women with breast cancer who make it to the five-year survival mark. That's up from 63 percent in the 1960s.

82% Women who make it to the 10-year survival mark.

77% Women who make it to the 15-year survival mark. (This number reflects women who didn't have the benefit of recent screening and treatment strategies.)

54% Women who reach the five-year survival mark after becoming pregnant within six months of ending treatment. That number increased to 78 percent for those women who became pregnant between six months and two years after treatment.

1/3 Percentage of cancer deaths in the U.S. each year that are linked to poor diet and lack of physical activity, according to a study published in the January/February 2012 issue of CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians.

Domestic Violence:

One in four women (25%) has experienced domestic violence in her lifetime.

Between 600,000 and 6 million women are victims of domestic violence each year, and between 100,000 and 6 million men, depending on the type of survey used to obtain the data.

Nearly three out of four (74%) of Americans personally know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence.

On average, more than three women and one man are murdered by their intimate partners in this country every day.

Studies suggest that between 3.3 - 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually.

And I'm SOOO EXCITED! Things are crazy right now, but it' the BEST time for me to start over! I've literally gone throught HECK to get to where I am now. Talk about a rose from concrete! Hunnay, let me TELL YOU!

I will celebrate my BIRTHDAY this month on the 12th. Libra in the house! Can't you tell?! lol Initially, I was starting out a little sad about approaching another year a few months ago, but a few days ago SOMETHING clicked inside of me! I want this birthday to be the best ever. Not from the well wishes, any celebrations, gifts, etc but from knowing who I am. Me coming full circle! And YES I'm scared and excited!
